Detour Dance Festival is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 by choreographer and Founder & Artistic Director Sara Jordan. Since its inception, Detour has been dedicated to supporting, empowering, and uniting the Danish and international Street and Club dance community.
Our mission is to nurture growth — from emerging young talents to established professional dancers and choreographers — through impactful performances, dynamic workshops, knowledge-sharing, and intergenerational exchange. At the heart of our work is a deep commitment to honoring the roots of Street and Club dance cultures and ensuring their visibility, appreciation, and sustainability across contexts.
Over the years, Detour has not only hosted transformative festivals and events, but has also cultivated a vital space for Afro-Danish dancers, both professional and non-professional. This space serves as a platform for cultural reconnection, artistic expression, and social empowerment — bridging gaps between the African diaspora and their heritage, and between community and stage.
As we continue to grow, Detour remains committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, creating stages for untold stories, and building an inclusive dance future driven by cultural integrity and collective care.
“We don’t just celebrate dance – we protect its roots, honor its people, and imagine new futures through movement.”
