Detour Dance Festival is excited to anounce that Jupiter Child will be part of this years festival.
Mozambican-born queer performer & visual artist Jupiter is based in Denmark. My art embodies themes of decolonial resistance and resilience, deeply rooted in my Makonde heritage. Inspired by the epic chisel work of Makonde sculptors, my work serves as a contemporary creative revolt and an acknowledgment of African heritage.
Artistic Philosophy and Practice
My motto, “Quilombo Dialectics,” encapsulates the essence of my artistic journey. Through my art, I explore the personal and cultural process of reclaiming and advocating African identity. I primarily work with acrylic canvas paintings and linoprints in a monochrome style, which serve as an ancestral nostalgic reverence.
Cultural and Social Impact
My art serves as a visual dialogue on the necessity of taking back our cultural heritage and contributing to a shared humanity.
